Job description:
We're hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to join the VCRM (Vinted CRM) team in the Member Lifecycle domain at Vinted. VCRM owns Vinted's in-house communications platform: the push notifications, emails and in-app messages that reach millions of members across 20+ markets every day. We build the systems that decide what to send, to whom and when, so that every message is relevant, timely and respectful of members' choices.
In this role, you'll scale our messaging delivery systems and bring machine learning based recommendations into the decision of whether to send each message. You'll also build consent and reach foundations that work across platforms and markets, and help run high-volume legal and transactional communications reliably. You'll work closely with data scientists, mobile and web engineers, and product partners. Many of our changes are validated through A/B experiments, so every backend improvement you make has a measurable effect on how members engage with Vinted.
Take a look at engineering.vinted.com to see what we're up to.
In this position, you’ll
Design, build and own backend services for our communications platform, which handles very high message volumes across push, email and in-app channels
Develop backend solutions using technologies such as Golang, Ruby on Rails, MySQL, Memcached and Elasticsearch - you don't need prior experience with all of them
Lead technical design for new capabilities such as send-time optimisation, frequency capping, rich push and recommendation-driven targeting
Partner with data scientists to put ML models into production and build the experimentation and measurement capabilities around them
Improve reliability and observability of message delivery, so issues are caught early and campaigns that can't fail (like legal communications) go out safely
Drive the decoupling of CRM logic from the core monolith into clear, maintainable services
Apply Agile and Lean principles, taking part in planning, refinement, retrospectives and other team ceremonies
Review code, mentor other engineers and raise the quality bar across the team
Use tools like Grafana and Kibana to monitor service behaviour and investigate issues
Collaborate with other product teams that rely on VCRM to reach their members
Participate in on-call rotations to ensure our product performs well
Requirements:
You have solid experience building and running backend systems at scale, ideally high-throughput or event-driven ones (messaging, notifications or pipelines are a strong plus)
Service extraction experience (a strong plus): You have experience tech-leading the extraction of specific domains or packages from a monolithic codebase into decoupled, standalone services.
You’re eager to learn and excited to grow your backend engineering skills, including working with GO lang
You enjoy improving things and proactively raising ideas when you see opportunities
You have solid software engineering fundamentals and experience building…
